You are required to complete two separate shoots, depicting your environment and to present 3 10X8 B&W (analogue) photographs.
The photographs should communicate aspects of your environment that are important to you. These might include your home, your street, your suburb and where you like to spend time. You may include people in your images but the focus should be on the environment.
Technical considerations:
You are not to use a flash so the photographs should be taken outside. Think about lighting and use a tripod if you need to use a shutter speed under1/60th.
Composition – demonstrate you understanding of the rules of composition we have discussed. If you break the rules you must be able to justify your decision.
Framing – Think about what is in the frame and what is omitted. Consider landscape vs portrait format.
Print quality – prints should be free of scratches and dust and processed correctly
Exposure – prints should be correctly exposed – you should have a true black (with detail) and a white that is not quite as white as the unexposed paper (and it should have detail). (We will learn about filters and contrast.)
Proof sheets (minimum of 2) should be pasted into your visual diary and annotated in terms of quality and effectiveness in meeting your aim.
Test strips should be pasted into your visual diary and annotated with printing specifications (f stop, filter and time).
Due date proof sheet one: Week beginning 4th March
Due date proof sheet two: 12th March
Folio due: 28th March
Students should complete a Circle Map, a Statement of Intention and a Time line before commencing the practical task. An evaluation will also be written after completion.
